What to expect during your telemedicine visit

At Aurora Total Wellness, my goal is to make your virtual healthcare experience simple, comfortable, and personal. Telemedicine allows you to receive high-quality care from the convenience of your own home, whether you’re managing a chronic condition, seeking a new treatment plan, or just need a quick check-in. Here’s what you can expect when you schedule a virtual appointment with me.

1. Easy Scheduling & Preparation

Booking is straightforward—appointments can be scheduled online or by calling/texting the office. Once your visit is confirmed, you’ll receive instructions on completing intake paperwork and consents ahead of time. This step ensures I have your history, goals, and concerns ready to review so we can make the most of our time together.

What you’ll need before your appointment:

- A reliable internet connection

- A smartphone, tablet, or computer with camera and microphone

- A quiet, private space where you feel comfortable discussing your health

- Any recent lab results, medications, or questions you’d like to go over

2. The Visit Experience

Your telemedicine visit will feel very similar to an in-person appointment, except you get to skip the waiting room.

  • Introductions & Updates: We’ll start by reviewing your medical history, recent symptoms, and any updates since your last visit.

  • Focused Discussion: I’ll listen carefully to your concerns and guide the conversation with questions tailored to your needs.

  • Evaluation & Care Plan: Together, we’ll discuss treatment options, lifestyle changes, or follow-up care. If needed, I’ll order labs, imaging, or prescriptions electronically.

  • Supportive Atmosphere: My approach is collaborative, you’ll always be included in decisions about your health and wellness.

3. Helpful Home Monitoring Tools

Because telemedicine takes place virtually, there are times when having basic health monitoring devices at home can make your care more accurate and effective. The tools you need will depend on your situation/condition. These tools allow me to better assess your symptoms and adjust your care plan:

  • Automated blood pressure cuff – Helpful for patients managing blood pressure, weight loss programs, or stimulant medications.

  • Digital thermometer – Essential for monitoring fever and illness at home.

  • Pulse oximeter (SpO₂ monitor) – Used for tracking oxygen levels, especially with respiratory symptoms.

  • Smart scale with body fat measurement – Provides valuable information about weight trends, body composition, and progress in wellness or hormone-based care plans.

  • Home EKG (such as Kardia) – Sometimes needed if we’re considering stimulant medications or if you have concerns about irregular heart rhythms that are not urgent.

✨ You can find my recommended devices on my Home Monitoring Devices page, making it simple to prepare for your telemedicine visits.

4. What Telemedicine Can—and Cannot—Do

Telemedicine is an excellent option for many concerns, but there are some limitations you should know:

✅ Appropriate for telemedicine:

  • Chronic condition management (thyroid, hormones, blood pressure, etc.)

  • Medication follow-ups and adjustments

  • Preventive care and wellness planning

  • Many common illnesses (cold/flu, urinary symptoms, skin issues)

❌ Not appropriate for telemedicine:

  • Conditions requiring controlled pain medications (I am not legally able to prescribe these via telehealth)

  • Emergencies or urgent concerns (chest pain, shortness of breath, severe injuries, etc.—please call 911 or seek emergency care)

5. After Your Visit

When your appointment is complete, you’ll receive a a visit summary in your patient portal. If prescriptions or labs are needed, I’ll send them directly to your preferred pharmacy or lab. You’ll also have access to:

  • Secure messaging for quick follow-up questions

  • Easy scheduling links for your next visit

  • Educational resources to support your health journey

6. Payment & Transparency

Aurora Total Wellness is a self-pay practice, meaning I do not bill insurance. This allows for complete transparency and freedom in the care we choose together.

  • Payment is due at the time of your visit

  • I accept all major credit and debit cards

  • Itemized receipts are available for HSA/FSA reimbursement or tax purposes

7. Why Patients Love Telemedicine
